Putting bumper stickers on your car and taking them back off needs to be done just right. If you don't put them on right, bubbles of air can become entrapped underneath and make them look terrible. When you take them off, you could be left with residue left behind that catches dirt and debris. Here, you will learn a few tips to help you get the sticker on and off with little issue.

Placing the Bumper Sticker

It is important that the area in which you are placing the bumper sticker is as clean as possible. If you leave dirt and debris on the surface, the sticker won't smoothly go on and could peel off prematurely.

Clean the area with a paper towel dampened with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will remove anything that could prevent the sticker from adhering to the surface and will dry very quickly.

Position the sticker where you want it to go before you peel off the backing. Once you have it placed properly, mark the corners on the bumper with chalk. This will help you get the sticker lined up correctly without having to peel it back off once it is on.

Now, removing the backing of one end of the sticker. Use a credit card to smooth the sticker on and press any air bubbles out from under it. Continue working from one side to the other until you have removed the backing and smoothed the sticker in place.

Removing the Bumper Sticker

When you're ready to get an old bumper sticker off of your car, one thing will make it super easy – a heat gun. If you don't have a heat gun, you can use a hair dryer. The trick is to heat the sticker up enough to soften the adhesive, but not so much that you melt the plastic or cause the surface of the vehicle to get damaged.

Keep the heat gun a few inches away from the sticker and heat it up on one end. Use a credit card to peel up the edge and continue working your way across the sticker. Eventually, the sticker will come off easily.

If there is sticky residue left behind, apply a little bit of Goo-Gone to a clean paper towel and buff the residue away. Then, wash the area with your favorite auto wash product.

These tips will help you change your bumper stickers as often as you like with as little trouble as possible. Support your favorite cause, show off your child's sports teams or just stick a little humor on your bumper as often as you like.
